The USS Missouri (BB-63) was named in honor of the state of Missouri and is also nick named the "Mighty MO". Senator Harry Truman's daughter, Margaret Truman christened the ship after their home state. the tradition of naming battleships after states held a significance during a period of turmoil, symbolizing resilience and unity within the United State. The USS Missouri earned here nickname dues to the service in World War II and her iconic status as a vessel in the United States Navy.
